How To Whisk Matcha

Step 1: Start with very high quality ceremonial grade matcha. We source ours from Uji, Japan. Crappy matcha wont work well.

Step 2: Sift 1-1.5 tsp of matcha into a tea bowl or mug. SIFTING IS KEY! You don't want clumpy bits in your tea.

Step 3: Add about 1/3 cup of water, heated to about 80 degrees Celsius. A common problem is adding too much water (it wont whisk up nicely). Ultra high quality matcha can use 85 or 90 degree water without becoming bitter.

Step 4: Pressing the whisk gently against the bottom of the bowl, whisk vigorously while moving side to side in a W pattern. This should take 15 seconds or so.

Step 5: Lift the whisk to the surface and whisk gently to remove larger bubbles.

Optional: Add slightly more water.

With practice, you will get small bubbles and ultra smooth, velvety matcha.
