Frequently Asked Questions

How are you different from other matcha brands?
Ahhh, the million-dollar question! We have tried many, many, MANY matcha brands. Some were terrible, some were okay, some were good, but NONE were amazing. That's why we decided to do our own research, locate the best of the best, and share it with everyone!

Most of the matcha you'll find around the world today (especially in North America) is bitter and chalky. Our matcha is smooth and sweet and delicious. It's like nothing you've ever tried before. We're SO excited for you to try (and love) it! :)

I found other matcha brands selling for cheaper than you. Why does yours cost more?
All we can say is: You get what you pay for! Cheap matcha is cheap for a reason.

Our matcha is sourced from Japan, and each tea leaf is picked manually to ensure only the very best leaves are chosen. It's a very time and labor-intensive process.

Many matcha companies sell second-flush (or even third, which isn't meant for drinking, but for baking) matcha, which costs a lot less.

We sell first-flush, which is a higher quality product that tastes better and has more nutrients in it

*Our GOLD tier non-organic matcha is a blend of both first-flush and second-flush.

What are the health benefits of matcha?
Matcha has MANY health benefits, including, but not limited to:

  • Boosts metabolism and burns calories
  • Calms the mind and relaxes the body
  • High in antioxidants (which help stabilize harmful free radicals)
  • Is rich in fiber, chlorophyll, and vitamins
  • Enhances mood and aids in concentration
  • Increases energy levels and endurance
  • Aids in weight loss
  • Provides vitamin C, selenium, chromium, zinc and magnesium
  • Lowers cholesterol and blood sugar

Plus a heap of other amazing benefits! Matcha truly is a powerhouse of goodness.

Is matcha better than coffee?

In our opinion, YES!

Matcha gives you longer-lasting energy than coffee does (which is the main reason people drink coffee), and you don't get that crash afterward! Plus, we just love the taste better. That said, we aren't hating on coffee. It has it's place. ;)

How much caffeine is in each cup of your matcha?

About 72mg of caffeine per serving (1 teaspoon), which is about 1/2 the amount of caffeine as you'd find in a regular cup of coffee. That said, the caffeine in matcha is MUCH different from caffeine you'd get in coffee, because of the L-theanine that matcha contains.

L-theanine in matcha, mixed with the caffeine in matcha, gives you energy without the crash or jitters (like you'd get from coffee, which DOESN'T have L-theanine in it).

Where is your matcha from?

Our matcha is sourced directly from Japan. It goes through a rigorous quality-control process before it comes to us, and then to you!

Do any of your products contain sugar?

NO. None of our matcha products contain sugar or any other ingredients. Just pure, 100% matcha green tea. Yum!

What's the difference between organic and non-organic matcha?

How should I prepare my matcha?

Please refer to our RECIPES page for how to properly prepare your matcha (you will also find basic instructions printed on our packaging when you receive your matcha in the mail).

Is your matcha certified organic?

There is a certified organic option for our GOLD tier matcha.

What is the difference between your GOLD tier and PLATINUM tier matcha?

We're so glad you asked! PLATINUM tier matcha is great any time of day, but we especially love it when we need a kick of energy, such as first thing in the morning or right before a workout. We recommend our PLATINUM tier matcha for drinking "plain" (just add water).

Our GOLD tier matcha is also great any time of day, but our favorite time to enjoy it is in the afternoons when the afternoon slump hits! We recommend the GOLD tier matcha for lattes and smoothies, but you can also drink it plain (it's just not as high of a quality as the PLATINUM tier variety, so isn't AS smooth).

Should I be worried about radiation with your matcha?

Absolutely NOT! Since the Fukushima disaster in 2011, Japan’s Ministry of Health, Labour, and Welfare have been conducting monthly radiation tests to ensure food safety.

Both Kyoto and Kagoshima prefectures, where we source our matcha, have never tested positive for radioactive contamination.

It is worth noting that Japan’s radioactivity safety limits match those set by Canada, the United States, the European Union, as well as international food safety bodies such as the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).
